The course was built along the seaside with magnificent
ocean views and is the only seaside course in Hainan Island as of Jan. 2003. You
can enjoy the course more or less because there are 3 or 4 holes facing the sea.
However, the overall impression is that the course is not so well designed because
some ponds are not very strategically placed, the fairways are very wide, about
60 yards on average, and furthermore there are no OB sticks. Therefore, there
are a limited number of impressive holes. The difficulty level is just average
unless strong offshore winds peculiar to seashore blow, in which case it will
become more difficult. |

You can feel the refreshing see breeze
on this par 3 where the right side of the green faces a seashore. There is a very
interesting device. When the tide is in, it will become a huge bunker and if the
tide is in, it will be a water hazard. It seems that no other seaside hole in
the world has such a clever contraption. |

IIt
looks like a slight dog leg to the right but it is actually an S-shaped hole.
The lake comes modestly in play at each shot and the fairway is tight, too. The
green is a bit elevated and the undulations are steep. Views of the 18th hole
and the ocean beyond are splendid. | |

The course
itself is not that bad because some holes are very interesting to play. But the
course was over-crowded on the day I played. So consequently my impression of
the course is lower than my 3.15 overall rating. If this kind of overbooking continues,
you do not need to play here. The club advertises the course as a seaside golf
course on Hainan Island but there are many better ones in other districts or countries.
The designer, Shouzaburo Uenish, has made about 10 courses in Japan.
