A view from the clubhouse
Tis is a forest course laid out on generally flat terrain. The course is not artificial, but utilizes the natural land and beauty, which assures a pleasant round. Another feature of the course is large greens. The name of Gozensui comes from the fact that a Japanese Emperor stopped by this place and drank the waters in order to rest quietly.

A slight dogleg to the right. A carry of 230 yards is needed to clear a right fairway bunker. The trees surrounding the green not only come into play but also enhance the beauty around the green.

4th Par 4 397 yards (1)
A sharp dogleg to the right. The second shot is gently uphill. A large bunker guarding the front of the green will catch any short short. The green is 50 yards deep and double-tiered.

8th Par 5 553 yards
A dogleg to the left with an excellent layout. The fairway is divided left and right with tall trees in the center. The left fairway is the safer route with a wider fairway. The right fairway is the shorter of the 2 routes but it has a lot of bunkers and a long hitter can drive over the fairway into a rough, so you need to make a decision which route to take.

13th Par 4 385 yards (1)
A dogleg to the left par 4 with water along the left side. An accurate tee shot is needed as the left side of the landing area off the tee borders the water. The second shot is onto the undulating green surrounded by trees.

A beautiful downhill par 3. A creek runs in front of the heavily bunkered green.

17th Par 4 441 yards
A slight dogleg to the left, a long par 4 with an OB on the left. A lake on the right, extending from 120 yards in front of the green to the front of the green, comes into play on the second shot.

It is a 10-miniute drive from the Shin Chitose Airport. You can book tee times though Internet golf agencies. The championship tees are the longest but there were no tees on the day I played. Instead I asked the club to allow me to play from the longest tee-grounds without the tees.

I came across foxes which impressed me as it was the first time to see them aside from in zoos.

Isamu Doi designed other courses in Japan are Shin Chitoese CC, Hokkaido Links CC, Akan CC and Sahoro CC.
