The course at Ono Golf club is a tree-lined parkland course set on the rooking hill, surrounded by a beautiful landscape. Each hole is completely separated by matured trees and sometimes by lakes. Almost all greens are elevated and protected by deep bunkers which require players to hit precious approach shots. The course has full of beautiful local plants, making players feel as if they were in a Japanese garden. The front 9 is less undulating and utilizes large Lake Camo (in Japanese “duck) to border on Hole 7, 8 and 9. The back 9 has more ups & downs, and flankered by tall pine trees. All par 3s are good, all par 4s are strong, and all par 5s are set on dynamic terrain. The greens are nicely contoured, fast and firm.

The designer, Osamu Ueda helped to build Hirono GC in 1932 as an assistant of C.H. Allison when he was a college boy. In 1934 Ueda was asked to go to Berlin Olympic as a swimming referee, and had a great opportunity to visit a lot of great courses in Europe, mainly in Great Britain to learn about links and heathland courses for the following several months. The experiences have surely helped him to establish his own course designing style, a mixture of British design philosophies and local Japanese ones. He eventually designed 56 good courses throughout Japan and one of the best should be Ono Golf Club.

The green is a two-tiered with a strong slope. This is a beautiful hole.

It is about a 60-minute drive from either Osaka or Kobe. Visitors must be accompanied or introduced by a member to play.

While the food served at the golf club is known for its top-quality, the duck pot is said to be incredibly delicious because of the availability of fresh duck nearby.

The 2020 edition of Top 100 Golf Courses ranked Ono GC (top100golfcourses.com) as No.6 in its category of top 80 courses in Japan that has 2230 courses as of 2019.

Isamu Ueda designed the other famous works in Japan are Shimonoseki GC, Koga GC, Ibaragi GC, Onotoyo GC, Osaka GC, Gifuseki CC, Yokkaichi CC, Narakokusai GC, etc.

Mr. Toyohiko Inui, who served as the chairman of the Japan Golf Association, built the Ono Golf Course when he was the president of Hirono GC. The course was designed by Osamu Ueda based on Mr. Inui's request of "I want to make the most of the natural terrain of this scenic spot, therefore, try to keep the bulldozer's hands as low as possible." Inui later created and designed Higashihirono GC with the same intention. Since various flowering trees were planted on the course since its opening, Mr. Inui was credited for the beautiful design of the golf course as it strongly resembles the look and feel of a park.
