* The gold tees, the longest, don’t have the course rating and they are 600 yards longer than the 6660 yards long blue tees that has the course rating of 71.3, so I estimated the black tees as about 73.8.

This is a flat course located near the sea and was crafted out of a coconut plantation. An excellent 18 holes are spaciously laid out from the huge terrain where 36 holes are possible. Each hole is independent and characteristic, so it is fun to play for advanced players. The front 9 has few tall trees and instead it features tall native grasses that has Scottish links flavor and very long fairway bunkers both of which are awaiting wayward shots. A lot of tall trees and water hazards come into play on the back 9, so it is really challenging. Cute lizards inhabit in the course and I came across around 50 of them.

A view

2nd Par 5 535 yards
A straight hole with a lake on the right and tall grasses on the left. Bunkers are superbly positioned on landing areas of each shot. The green is a little swung to the right and guarded by bunkers and the lake.

A beautiful but demanding par 3 over a lake.

4th Par 4 410 yards (1)
A par 4 with the well positioned lake on the right. The fairway is wavy and the lading area off the tee is narrow. The lake squeezes into the fairway in front of the green.

8th Par 4 411 yards
A sharp dogleg to the right around a huge bunker. The green is slightly elevated and another huge bunker protects the front side of the green.

13th Par 5 604 yards
A sight dogleg to the right, “signature hole”. A creek runs on the right side of the fairway on the tee shot, crosses the fairway and run lastly along the left sides of the fairway and the green. The creek proves to be a significant factor on the second and third shots. The double-tiered green has strong slope. You can enjoy the picturesque scenery from the tee.

A straight and difficult hole. Not only it is very long but also requires accurate shots as the natural vegetations on both sides come into play.

15th hole seen from the green

15th Par 3 203 yards
A par 3 over a lake. The green has subtle undulations.

A slight dogleg to the right. The tee shot requires to go over a lake. The lake on the right and bunkers on the left of the fairway come into play. This is the hole that you feel like as if you are playing in a jungle.

18th Par 4 430 yards

18th Par 4 430 yards (2)

18th Par 4 430 yards (1)
A sharp dogleg to the left with a lake on the entire left side. The tee shot is entirely over water and the more of the lake is cut off, the easier second shot will become. The green is sq ueezed by the lake on the left and bunkers on the right, so the second shot is demanding.

It takes 40 minutes by flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan followed by another 50 minutes drive from Kuantan or 3.5 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. We stayed at the Club Med Charting Beach with my family and it took 1 hour 30 minutes to get there by taxi. You can also stay at Swiss Garden Resort, Kuantan or Hyatt Regency, Kuantanwhi are much closer to the course.

The course was chosen 16th top golf course in Malaysia by the readers’ poll of Golf Malaysia in 2002. IMG is the world-renowned sports management company. The other IMG designed golf course in Asia are Wack Wack G&CC - West Course in the Philippines and Palm Spring G&BR in Indonesia.
