The course was selected as the most difficult course in 2002’s Malaysian golfers poll, excluding Saujana GC – Palm Course. I didn’t feel it was so difficult because the total length is just a little over 6500 yards. However, it is a challenging course with narrow landing areas off the tee with relatively small greens, so every shot has to be accurate. It will surely attract advanced players. Out of 27 holes over an undulating landscape and lush greenery, Lake & Hill Course is a championship course. The front 9 Lake Course, which is longer, is more difficult than the back 9 Hill Course.
A beautiful par 3 over a lake. It is intimidating and should prove very challenging. A precise tee shot is needed here first to clear a lake bordering the front of the green and to avoid a row of trees on the right. Too much club may not be the right choice for those frightened by the lake as the green slopes from front to back with a bunker at the back. Although it is a difficult hole, pink lotus flowers ease your stress.
A dogleg to the right, a sharp downhill off the panoramic tee. Water hazards on the right of the fairway and on the left of the green come into play. The green is elevated and guarded by 2 bunkers on the right and left.
An almost 90-degree dogleg to the right surrounding a lake. The tee shot is sharply downhill, so you can reach the green in 2 shots even if you aren’t a long hitter. After a precise drive, you need to hit a demanding, accurate 200-yard second shot over water with an uphill lie.
A strong downhill off the tee followed by a strong uphill on the second shot. Its landscaping is scenic and the closer to the green, the narrower the hole becomes, like a triangle shape. The green is well protected by two front bunkers.
The fairway is narrow with bunkers and trees on the left and water on the right. A good drive to the left center of the fairway, sets up a mid iron approach to the narrow green. The trees are protecting the fairways as well as the green on the left side, so both the tee and second shots must be accurate. This hole is not long but one of the hardest holes on the course.
The tee shot is over water and the second shot is sharply uphill toward the clubhouse. The green is protected by 3 bunkers on the front and the right.
The course is very close to Kuala Lumpur. Many Malaysians and no Japanese played here on the weekday I played. It was a little tough to play here for the first time without caddies. However, it is a very challenging course worth playing again.
